As I go to SPAM's website for the first time, I keep in mind that I've never purchased or tasted a SPAM product. I'm greeted by a quick pop in which informs me to click a link if I'd like to print off coupons, recipes involving SPAM, and how to upload my own recipes. I didn't even know recipes included SPAM so that was a new one for me. After I clicked out of the pop in, the front page greets me with recipes of what I would like to mix SPAM with, whether its egg, tomato, macaroni, or potatoes. Each choice will give you four different recipes along with pictures of what the main dish would look like.
Now SPAM to me has a stereotype. SPAM was the product that you can keep in your food stock in case the power went out for an extended period of time. I was unaware that people mixed SPAM with other food products to make food dishes, from SPAM and scalloped potatoes, to SPAM with macaroni and cheese, to morning egg and SPAM burritos. The website is very interactive, which is one great key point that Roberts Chapter 4 pointed out. An internet marketing program has three action objectives. To get the visitor to remain on the site longer, to entice visitors to request additional information, and to make sales.
SPAM's website accomplishes keeping visitors on their website through interaction. The website asks you what kind of food you prefer eating, and how you can mix spam with that choice. Very cool. SPAM also entices its consumers to request additional information by looking through a list of recipes to print off from the manufacturer and from other consumers. Finally, SPAM attempts to achieve sales , whether first time consumers or previous purchases, by offering coupons for their products from the moment you enter the website URL in.
In conclusion, other food manufacturers could take key points from SPAM's website in order to increase their customer base, retain customers, and create the highest possible customer lifetime value.
SPAM's Website.

I am impressed at how good your blog is. Not only does it look professional, but it is also informative. In my opinion, no matter how you try and sell it, Spam is Spam. It's ok in very small doses, but that's about it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your blog. I also have never tried Spam before, but after reading your blog, I would be up to trying it since you talked up their website so much. I especially liked how you observed their comments to mix it with something else like macaroni and cheese or eggs etc. That little comment makes it much more appealing to me.
ReplyDeleteOK, so I just finished posting about SPAM and the benefits of the recipe exchange and here is another. That's it, I'm caving. I'm going out right now and buying some SPAM to see first hand what the hubub is about.
ReplyDeleteI particularly agreed with your comment that SPAM suffers from a sterotype, as I am within the large crowd of Americans with a rather dubious opinion of the mysterious contents of those blue cans.
However, I do give the recipe exchange props. By providing serving ideas Hormel is in essence taking some of the negative mystery out of their product. It also provides proof that other people do in fact eat SPAM and are also still alive to write about the experience.
Keith don't cave! We are a small, elite group of non- spam eaters. I am from homersota and love supporting my state but I simply can not bring myself to try this product. I have had friends tell me it is great if you fry it and eat it with eggs which makes me more ill. I am digging my heals in and am saying to to spam. I am Mike Colosimo and I support this message!
ReplyDeleteAlot of good information, your post makes me want to go out and try SPAM again. I haven't eaten SPAM since I was a child. Not quite sure if I could get it down as an adult.
ReplyDeleteWow from what you said i had to go to the site, and i was amazed as well. I just imagine spam as that depression era food, or the food that WWII soldiers ate. I also know that it's Minnesotan and the original plant is south of the cities some where. I didn't realize people still ate it, but when i looked at the recipes i actually thought, hmm I could eat that. I never in my life had thought the idea of actually eating spam was real, but they give you enough ways to mask it and yeah, I'de have a bite. for that i think they are brilliant.
